The Allan Labor Government is improving safety for families in Miners Rest, with new pedestrian upgrades to make crossing the Ballarat-Maryborough Road safer and easier for children, parents and the broader community.
Miners Rest is a rapidly growing community on the northern edge of Ballarat, with many young families living in the MacArthur Park Estate and children attending Miners Rest Primary School.
Despite the high number of students who walk or ride to school each day, there is currently no safe crossing point on the busy Ballarat-Maryborough Road.
The upcoming pedestrian safety improvements will create a safer crossing location for children travelling to and from school, supporting active travel and giving families greater confidence on their daily trips.
The project will include lowering vehicle speeds in the immediate vicinity of the new crossing, making it easier and safer for children and their families to use the pedestrian path.
The benefits extend beyond school travel, the upgrade will also improve access for people of all ages – including older residents – to local bus services, providing safer and more reliable connections within this growing community.
These works form part of ongoing efforts to support safer, more accessible transport options for Miners Rest as the area continues to expand.
