The Allan Labor Government has transformed the newly upgraded Maryborough and District Hospital, making it easier for Goldfields locals to access the care they need, closer to home.
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett has announced that final works on the new easy-access patient drop-zone and ancillary works at the $115 million hospital redevelopment are complete.
The completed ancillary works have transformed the hospital precinct, with the removal of the old Urgent Care Centre revealing the original 1850s building façade.
A new pedestrian ramp to the main entrance, turning circle and additional accessible car parking are ensuring it is easier than ever before for locals to access care, when they need it.
As part of the final works, Djandak and members of the Djaara Women’s Knowledge Group worked alongside Fairbrother Construction to plant a range of native shrubs and trees to create a welcoming, culturally connected space for all patients, staff and visitors.
Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, the redevelopment includes a new Urgent Care Centre, 32-bed inpatient unit, two operating theatres and recovery spaces, and a day medical centre housing imaging, pharmacy, oncology, dialysis and infusion services.
Goldfields newest locals are arriving in the upgraded maternity unit, ensuring mums with low-risk pregnancies do not have to travel further distances to larger regional centres.
Opening its doors in April last year, the state-of-the-art hospital is already supporting demand in the region, enabling an extra 4,000 patients to be treated each year.
The modern design and layout are improving patient flow, delivering a safer and more efficient workplace for staff and better care for patients.
The hospital also includes new consultant suites, a reception area and more carparking for locals.
