The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Ararat’s J Ward Museum with $55,000 through the Living Heritage Program.

Today Member for Ripon Martha Haylett launched the completed works of the 130-year-old Ship B Mural at the former Ararat Gaol.

The former Ararat Gaol, which once housed some of Victoria's most notorious criminals, has now been transformed into a living museum, where visitors can explore the fascinating stories of those who lived and worked here.

At the heart of this museum is the Ship B mural, a stunning artwork that captures the spirit of adventure that has been so much a part of Australia's history.

But for many years, the mural was in a poor state - the paint had faded and cracked, leaving the image of the ship barely visible.

Over the past year, a team of skilled conservators has worked tirelessly to restore the mural to its former glory.

They have carefully cleaned the surface of the wall, repaired the cracks and missing pieces of paint, and applied a protective coating to ensure that the mural will remain in good condition for many years to come.

The Ship B mural now stands as a testament to the skill and dedication of those who have worked to restore it.
